Amongst the group of old Hollywood glamour and glitz, only certain faces and names are still as popular as Marilyn Monroe’s.
One of the most iconic celebrities, Monroe, is popularly known for the birthday song she sang for John F. Kennedy and the time when her dress blew up. That aside, she’s also known as pop culture’s greatest celebrity.
Sadly, in the year 1962, her life was cut short. But despite all that, her short span in the limelight glooming with captivating stories is what build her status as the Hollywood icon!
Well, even if we know a little something about her, it turns out that our blond bombshell had been way too mysterious during her time than what one might credit her for. Moreover, even several years after her demise, we are still simply scrapping the surface of what she actually was.
That being said, in this article we’ve mentioned 7 facts of Marilyn Monroe, which, once you reach the end, will surely have you on the edge of your seats!
She had a total of 8 different names
All these years, all of us have known her as Marilyn Monroe, but little did we know that our blond bombshell was baptized under the name Norma Jean Baker – shocking, isn’t it?
Well, this just doesn’t stop right here; in her birth certificate it’s mentioned that her name was Norma Jean Mortenson, but she used to model under the names Mona Monroe and Norma Norma Jean. Moreover, she checked into hotels as Zelda Zonk, visited her psychiatrist as Faye Miller and used to call herself Jean Adair. Pheww!
She was always underpaid
Regardless of her international reputation, Monroe was always underpaid when compared to other actresses during her time in the industry. In fact, the actress who worked with her in the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes was offered money ten times more than Marilyn Monroe. You see, it is all there in the fine print!
She was claimed as daughter by 2 men
Only little do we know about Marilyn’s biological family and when on their deathbed, 2 men claimed to be the father of the actress. Even though both of them can be easily traced back in her past, it is still not sure as to who was legally and biologically her father.
She got married first at the age of 16
Well before getting married to, firstly, Joe DiMaggio and later on Arthur Miller, it is said that Marilyn got married to a man named James Dougherty – which, as we can all see, didn’t quite work out!
In his later life, it is said that James Dougherty’s wife did not allow him to watch films starring Marilyn Monroe in it.
She made the most obnoxious Will
There is no denying to the fact that Monroe was a soul full of troubles – perhaps, that’s the reason why she left all of her legacy to her acting coach, Lee Strasberg, in her Will rather than for her family. Apparently, all of her legacy was there in Lee’s basement till the day he died. It’s also said that she gave a huge chunk of it to her psychoanalyst, Dr. Marianne Kris.
Just like Monroe, if you wish to pass on your legacy to someone you’ve always looked up to, simply make a Will and specifically mention their names. If you’re wondering how to make a will at home, then seek professional advice from your lawyer.
She never liked diamonds
Have you ever come across even a single woman who’s told you that she doesn’t likes diamonds – not a one, right?
Well, the irony with Monroe is that, although she was popular for the song “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend”, she, for a fact, wasn’t really a fan of them. The only jewelry she ever wore was the one with her costume along with an exception of a diamond ring and string of pearls given by her second husband, Joe DiMaggio.
She had roses delivered to her crypt
Before the death of Marilyn Monroe, she had asked DiMaggio to promise her that he would leave roses on her grave every single week if she happens to die before him. Sadly, though, she did die before him. But, he made sure that he’s keeping up to his promise and delivered half-dozen roses every week to her grave for almost 20 years.
Now, that’s a tragic and fascinating life, isn’t it? Having read these stupefying facts, we’re sure that you would’ve understood as to why Monroe has summoned such affectionate feelings from her fans all over the world. We must say, she honestly was one in a million!
